City on a Hill is a Showtime crime drama set in early 1990s Boston, exploring themes of systemic corruption and justice. The campaign required a visual identity that captured the show's gritty atmosphere and complex characters.
Role: Art Director
Responsibilities: Developed key art concepts and multiple creative pieces. Created mockups, presentations, and mood boards for executive and showrunner pitches. Selected photographer and planned the photoshoot, including on-site location scouting. Handled key art compositing and oversaw retouching processes. Delivered final assets, including out-of-home materials, press kits, and style guides.
The creative direction emphasized the stark Boston winter, using textured visuals and a subdued color palette to reflect the show's tense narrative. The key art featured principal characters against a backdrop of icy streets, symbolizing the cold and unforgiving environment they navigate.
Collaborated closely with photographer Eric Ogden to capture the desired key art and PR imagery. Extensive versioning, compositing and color matching were conducted to achieve the final look. The press kit was designed to resemble a 'security bag,' complete with embossed stitching, a vintage leather strap, and brass-like buckles, enhanced with high-gloss metallic silver and a soft-touch aqueous coating.
